A beloved Georgia restaurant is transforming grief into giving through an ambitious two-week culinary event that celebrates its late founder while establishing a scholarship fund for aspiring chefs.
Kurt’s Euro Bistro, which has served European-inspired cuisine in Duluth since 1985, lost its namesake Kurt Eisele in May. Now the restaurant’s team is channeling their loss into a meaningful tribute that showcases both his culinary legacy and personal passions.

The Kitchen Takeover event features a specially curated menu created by the restaurant’s current chefs alongside former chefs who worked under Eisele’s mentorship. Each dish represents a personal connection to the late restaurateur, whether through shared memories, culinary inspiration, or techniques learned during their time together.
Beyond the dining experience, the event includes a silent auction featuring items from Eisele’s personal collections. Guests can bid on culinary memorabilia, racing collectibles, and Märklin model train pieces, along with cookbooks, magazines, vintage posters, and artwork that reflect his diverse interests.
All proceeds from both the special menu and auction will benefit the newly established Kurt Legacy Foundation. The foundation plans to partner with the American Culinary Federation to provide annual scholarships for apprentice chefs pursuing formal culinary education.
The family-owned restaurant has built its reputation over nearly four decades by focusing on fresh, local ingredients and offering dishes that venture beyond typical bistro fare. The intimate dining space, complemented by an extensive wine selection and full bar, has made it a destination for both romantic dinners and special occasions in the Atlanta metro area.
The Kitchen Takeover represents more than a memorial event. It demonstrates how the culinary community can unite to honor a mentor while investing in the next generation of chefs. By establishing the scholarship fund, Eisele’s influence will continue to shape young culinary careers for years to come.
The two-week tribute allows both longtime patrons and newcomers to experience the Euro bistro’s commitment to innovative cuisine while supporting a cause that extends Eisele’s passion for mentoring emerging talent in the culinary arts.
