Immigration Attorney Steve Perez has established himself as a prominent advocate for immigrant rights in the San Gabriel Valley since relocating his practice to Pasadena in May 2024. With 25 years of experience in the immigration legal field, Steve brings a deeply personal approach to his work at Perez Legal Group, where family history and professional expertise converge.
“It was very personal for me. My parents immigrated and left everything behind to come to this country in search of the American Dream. This backstory of my own family is what sparked my interest in becoming an Immigration Lawyer,” he explained during a recent interview.
The attorney’s connection to immigration law runs deeper than professional interest. Steve recalls his mother calling him her little “abogado” during childhood, as he served as her unofficial translator and mediator. This early experience culminated in a profound moment in 2023 when he witnessed his mother take the oath of allegiance to become a U.S. citizen—serving both as her immigration lawyer in her case and her son.
“As an attorney, these are the moments you live for and cherish forever. To be a voice for the voiceless, a champion for the less fortunate, and to always be in the service of others when they need you the most,” Steve reflected.
Despite practicing law for four years, Steve’s quarter-century involvement in immigration legal work has shaped his comprehensive approach at his Pasadena-based firm. The practice focuses on family cases, humanitarian applications including U visas and VAWA cases, and business immigration matters such as investor and EB2 visas. The decision to establish operations in Pasadena was strategic, with Steve citing the city’s diversity, vibrancy, and engagement with social issues as key factors.
The current political climate has intensified demand for immigration legal services. Steve noted a significant shift in enforcement priorities that has created widespread uncertainty among immigrant communities. His office has seen increased inquiries from long-term residents and newcomers alike, many concerned about heightened scrutiny of humanitarian applications and increased deportation proceedings.
“There’s definitely been a renewed climate of fear and uncertainty. Enforcement priorities have shifted again, and we’re seeing clients reach out in a panic—some who have been here for decades, others who are just starting their process,” Steve observed.

In response to these challenges, the firm has helped numerous clients in Pasadena and surrounding areas understand their rights and pursue available protections. Steve emphasized that the urgency of their work has reached unprecedented levels.
What distinguishes Perez Legal Group from larger firms is its integration of artificial intelligence tools while maintaining a boutique practice model. The firm employs AI for drafting waiver templates, automating client reminders, and generating educational content. However, Steve stressed that technology serves to enhance rather than replace human judgment.
“AI has allowed us to enhance everything from client communication to content marketing. We use AI tools to help us draft waiver templates, automate reminders, and generate educational content that answers the questions our clients are asking online. But here’s the key—AI doesn’t replace human judgment. It needs direction, oversight, and a personal touch,” Steve explained.
In a change of pace, Steve’s 11-year-old son Jacob contributes to the firm’s marketing efforts by helping manage AI tools. His involvement ensures the firm’s messaging remains accessible and relatable to clients who may be unfamiliar with modern terminology.
The firm’s rapid growth and strong online presence stem from its client-centered approach. Steve attributes success to treating each case as a human story rather than a legal file. Staff members like Brianna, who serves as the initial contact for many clients, embody the firm’s commitment to warmth and professionalism.
“We understand that behind every immigration case is a human story—someone’s life, family, or business on the line. We make sure that every person who walks into our office or contacts us online feels seen, heard, and respected,” Steve said.
Serving Pasadena’s diverse immigrant population holds special significance for Steve, who views the city as representative of America’s multicultural landscape. His client base spans undocumented students, international researchers, restaurant workers, and mixed-status families, each presenting unique challenges and opportunities.
Looking ahead, Perez Legal Group plans to expand its digital services with multilingual options for family cases while growing its investor and employment-based visa practice. The firm intends to deepen its technological integration to improve efficiency and accessibility without compromising its core values.
“We’re going to keep growing—but with purpose. We plan to provide more online services in multiple languages for family cases, expand our investor and employment-based visa services, and deepen our tech integration to make immigration law more efficient and accessible. But no matter how much we scale, our core values will stay the same: strategy, compassion, and community,” Steve stated.
The firm offers consultations in both English and Spanish from its Pasadena office, positioning itself as a resource for the San Gabriel Valley’s immigrant communities during a period of heightened uncertainty and evolving immigration policies.
